Senior Technical Writer

Seagate Consumer Solutions is looking for a talented and experienced technical writer to produce consumer-oriented manuals, help, and other content in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. We are looking for someone who is a good writer, is experienced in producing end-user documentation, and is always thinking of a way to do it better.
You care about the work you do and you are confident in your abilities to write complete, correct, and consistent documentation. You believe that it is the technical writer’s responsibility to learn the product you are writing about, and you are able to determine how much information needs to be transferred to your user. You are able to write for the highly technical user as well as the less-experienced non-technical consumer, and you pay attention to the research to determine who that user is.
Responsibilities:
- Gather information from meetings, product specifications, pre-release software, and interviews with subject-matter experts.
- Create manuals, help, and other content as needed for consumer products.
- Manage your own schedules to ensure on-time delivery in a fast-paced environment.
- Prep your work for translation to help deliver content in as many as 18 languages.
Required skills:
• At least five years’ experience writing user documentation in a software development environment and a BS/BA
• Experience writing for a range of users, including non-technical
• Detail-oriented and able to work independently to handle a project from beginning to end
• Multi-tasker, able to juggle many and varied projects
• A deep understanding of help (user assistance) and expertise with at least one help authoring tool
• Strong FrameMaker skills; experience with an image-editing tool like PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro. Knowledge of ePublisher (WebWorks) is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills
• Good team player

SAP Knowledge and Portal Manager
Our client in San Francisco, CA is in immediate need of help with their SAP Knowlege Management/Training portal. You will need to be a strategic resource to help our client develop a super user program internally that functions to support users of SAP – in their learning and development. Specific job tasks and skills requirements follow:
uPerform Support
• Drive process team completion of BPP updates as outlined in document life cycle plan
• Maintain and educate on uPerform document standards
• Establish library organization that is intuitive and easily accessible by end users
• Ensure organization is educated on how to access and utilize
uPerform tool
• Technical training environment
• Establish ongoing training environment strategy with IT, including sandbox strategy
• Coordinate data build as required to support classroom training deployment
• Knowledge portal

• Ensure course information is loaded into the LMS as needed to support training registration

Must have experience:
• Minimum 5 years experience supporting systems training and knowledge management, including minimum of 2 years with SAP.
• Internal or external consulting experience is required with training technology in a significant system implementation (including LMS and training development tool and training environment strategy)
• Minimum 1 year experience with InfoPak, Productivity Pak or OnDemand required
• Experience planning and developing communications that are clear and effective
• Experience delivering systems training
• Experience managing and executing training utilizing a technical training environment (specifically online support & web based training).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Excellent analytical, organizational and communications skills required
• Understanding of user interface design and web administration
• Understanding of adult learning principles and training deployment
• Strong Microsoft Office skills

Excellent writing and technical skills with proven experience writing high-quality documentation for complex software products. Working knowledge of design flows and engineering basics experience desired. Candidate must also have working experience and deep knowledge of the *tools of the trade*, e.g., RoboHelp, Flare, Wikis, Word, Adobe Acrobat, etc., along with Microsoft Office and HTML editing software. Must demonstrate proven strong leadership, decision-making and communication skills and a keen ability to analyze documentation needs and complete projects with little direction. Ability to build rapport with busy developers and willingness to attend their meetings to determine what information is relevant to documentation is a must. Management experience is a great plus.
